L.A. mayor urges boycott of California
If Arizona deserves to be punished for its immigration law, the Golden State should be targeted over Prop. 8, Villaraigosa says.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
Killing two birds with one stone, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa championed equal rights and solved L.A.'s budget mess by expanding his Boycott Arizona campaign to include California.

"Prop. 8 is every bit as discriminatory as Arizona's immigration law," Villaraigosa said. "I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't hold my own state to the same standards. For example, when I was speaker of the Assembly and California voters passed Prop. 187, I immediately urged a boycott of our state. ... Wait, I didn't do that? Crap. But still, that doesn't mean Arizona should get off the hook."

As a bonus, Villaraigosa's California boycott program could end L.A.'s budget crisis.

"Until the state overturns Prop. 8, I promise to cut off all government spending in the city," he said.
