Dictionary writers add asterisk next to the word ‘baseball’

The official definition of America's favorite pastime will be accompanied by an asterisk in upcoming editions of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

Lexicographers said the change was made after consultations with sports writers, grammarians and Abner Doubleday. A galley proof of the revised definition appears above.
